Database breaches continue to top the morning news headlines. In the first month of 2012, www.privacyrights.org has already reported 33 breaches in the United States and those are just the ones that have been identified and reported.
Why aren’t the numbers of breaches slowing down? Organizations continue to struggle with budgets, processes and technology to thoroughly protect their data. True data protection requires depth in defense. We can no longer just rely on a single point of protection. For example in a September 2011 article titled Poke disables Oracle's database auditing, the author describes how he easily disabled Oracle’s database capabilities allowing him to access, retrieve and change data without any detection.
In this presentation, we will discuss how to secure Oracle databases from internal and external threats with a depth in defense approach. We will demonstrate how database logging alone will not suffice and how monitoring the actual activities are required to ensure a separation of duties and real-time protection. You will also hear about protecting data in non-production environments like testing and development and how to prevent theft while still enabling your testers to be successful.
