Oracle Security Best Practices

Steve Lemme: Mr. Lemme is a Director of Database Management solutions for CA, published author of “Implementing and Managing Oracle Databases” and columnist in Database Trends and Applications Magazine. Mr. Lemme is a Oracle Master DBA with 15+ years experience in mission-critical Oracle architecture. Prior to CA, he managed critical computer and database systems for Allied Signal, Apple, GTE, Motorola, where downtime was $150,000+/hr. He holds the position of Director in the Independent Oracle Users Group.

Arup Nanda: Working exclusively as an Oracle DBA for more than thirteen years, Arup has extensive exposure to all types of issues relates to Oracle - from design to implementation and beyond - issues ranging from performance to recovery and planning areas like best practices and datawarehouse design. He is the co-author of Oracle PL/SQL for DBAs (2005, O'Reilly), Oracle Privacy Security Auditing and the upcoming "RMAN Recipes" (2007 Apress). Oracle conferred him with the DBA of the Year award in 2003.

Jack Brinson: Mr. Jack Brinson is a Principal Product Manager at the Oracle Corporation. He has over over 17 years in information technology and software industry. As a Principal Product Manager for Oracle, Mr. Brinson is responsible for the strategic direction, marketing, business development and product management of Oracle's Database Security products.

Mr. Brinson is a 10-year veteran at the Oracle Corporation and has held various positions within Oracle's Consulting, Sales, and Product Management divisions. Mr. Brinson is well versed in Oracle's products and solutions offering which include database security & compliance, data warehousing, and business intelligence products. His experience spans a wide range of Fortune 500 and government clients.

Mr. Brinson has helped companies of all industries meet their security management and regulatory compliance objectives. He has worked customers to deliver practical solutions to the complex security and compliance problems. Prior to joining Oracle, Mr. Brinson served as Software Development project manager, systems analyst, and developer at a large systems integration company and consulting firms. Mr. Brinson holds a Bachelors degree and advanced Masters degree.

Tammy Bednar: Tammy Bednar, a Sr. Principal Product Manager on the Oracle Database Security team, has 20+ years of experience in IT that includes software development, Oracle database support, and Product Manager in High Availability. Tammy supported the development of Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) with encryption and Oracle Secure Backup. She currently is working on Oracle's newest product, Audit Vault, that manages and reports on database auditing.

Dan Norris: Dan has been a consultant on Oracle DBA issues, UNIX administration, tuning, high availability, and troubleshooting since 1998. His design of highly-available system architectures including multi-tier application environments has led to many successful engagements performing implementation, design, and assessment of security for systems, networks, applications, and databases. Dan holds Oracle Certified Master DBA and Red Hat Certified Engineer certifications among many others. His past work as a DBA and Application Server Administrator in the Nuclear Weapons Complex at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) lays the foundation for his background in Oracle security in both the database and middle tiers.

Ken Jacobs: Since helping to establish the first Oracle office in Washington , DC in 1981, Mr. Jacobs has been a prominent spokesperson for Oracle and an advocate inside the company for customers' interests. He has held a number of technical and management roles for Oracle, including consulting, support, product management and product marketing.

Mr. Jacobs has helped guide the development of the Oracle Database product over the years, and he holds several patents for innovative database technology. His early work with a number of U.S. Department of Defense clients laid the groundwork for Oracle's leadership position in database security. From 1985-1993, he represented Oracle on the ANSI SQL Standards committee, and he subsequently represented Oracle on the Transaction Processing Council for two years.

Mr. Jacobs is also often a featured speaker at Oracle conferences and events. Known as "Dr. DBA" to thousands of Oracle Database administrators, he hosts an on-line radio program on Oracle's E-Business Network (/ebusinessnetwork/drdba), where he discusses technical and business issues relating to developing and deploying database applications.

Alex Gorbachev: Alex Gorbachev started working with Oracle in 1997 in Russia . He has recently moved to Ottawa, Canada and is currently working as Database Administrator for The Pythian Group. Prior to that he was an Oracle DBA with Amadeus in Germany, building and supporting highly available solutions for travel reservations.

Gaja Krishna Vaidyantha: Gaja Krishna Vaidyanatha is the Principal at DBPerfMan LLC (http://www.dbperfman.com), a consulting firm specializing in Oracle & System Performance. He has worked with Oracle systems for 14+ years, providing technical product direction for Veritas Corporation, Oracle Corporation and Quest Software. Gaja has co-authored two books in the area of Oracle Performance and is a frequent speaker in the national and international Oracle circuit. He can be reached at gaja@dbperfman.com .

Rich Niemiec: Rich Niemiec is CEO and co-founder of TUSC. TUSC is an Inc. 500, Chicago-based systems integrator of Oracle-based business solutions. Rich is well-respected and is one of the six original honored worldwide Oracle Certified Masters. Rich is the former President of the IOUG and also the current President of the Midwest Oracle Users Group. Rich authored the Oracle bestseller “Oracle9i Performance Tuning Tips & Techniques,” Rich is also a member of the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.

Leng Tan: Leng Tan is the Vice President of Database Management group, a part of the Server Technologies Division at Oracle Corporation.  She is responsible for Database Management in Enterprise Manager as well as the development of Oracle's self-managing and self-diagnosing database.  Leng joined Oracle as a developer in 1989, worked on transaction processing and parallel query technologies.

George Trujillo: George Trujillo Jr. is the president and CEO of Trubix, Inc. George is the principal architect of what has been described as one of the true "learning organizations" in the world. Top 10 software companies have selected Trubix Inc. to implement training solutions for their next generation technologies. George has authored numerous courses ranging from Oracle10g XML DB, Grid Control, Oracle ASM, and RAC to Advanced Fusion Middleware courses. George is on the IOUG Board of Directors.

Bradley D. Brown:  is chairman of the board, chief architect, and cofounder of TUSC.
Brad has extensive real world experience with XML.  Brad has written and presented a number of papers and presentations on XML related topics including: The Power of XML with Oracle, AJAX and Oracle, and Changing the World with XML, Web Services and SOA.  Brad's books have also included a number chapters on XML.

Geoffroy de Lamalle: CEO, Accenova - A division of All4it Group
10 years of experience in the field of data management mainly with Oracle. Last 4 years spent on XML DB, BPM/SOA delivering end-to-end solutions built on top of orchestration platforms (Intalio, Oracle Fusion).

Jinyu Wang: Sr. PM for Oracle XML Product management and Secure Enterprise Search.
7 years of product manager provides the XML infrastructure components used across Oracle product stacks and leading the XML solutions to Oracle customers for their business applications. She frequently speaks at conferences and publishes papers in magazines. She is a co-author of Oracle Database 10g: XML and SQL.

Ravi Murthy: Consulting Tech Member, XML DB Tech Lead and W3C Binary XML Spec Lead
Ravi Murthy is a Consulting Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Corporation. He is currently working on a hosted, community driven application development platform that's highly customizable and extensible. Previously he was the principal technical lead for Oracle XML DB, the native XML database and content repository within the Oracle DBMS. He was the editor of the specification for Oracle Binary XML, an efficient binary representation of XML adopted by all the tiers of the Oracle product stack. Ravi holds a masters degree in computer science from University of Wisconsin , Madison and a bachelors degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
