Doing More with Less, Database Consolidation in the Real World
Speaker: Erik Benner, Solution Architect, BIAS Corporation
Erik Benner showcases real-life examples from Platinum partner BIAS Corporation, as database consolidation best practices are examined. Whether you are consolidating large data-warehouse databases onto Exadata, small OLTP systems on ODA, ERP systems on T5 servers or development databases on to Linux systems, this session is for you. The database consolidation lifecycle is highlighted through actual customer scenarios, from the planning, migration and operational support of a consolidation project. Learn how OEM12c simplifies the consolidation process, not only for the implementation of the process, but also post consolidation issues. Explore the concept of complimentary workloads, and how OEM12c simplifies the process of identifying databases that can coexist. Wrap up with the common challenges Database Administrators face with consolidation projects.
During this 1 hour educational session, you will:
• Learn how to plan a consolidation project using OEM12c
• Learn how to migrate databases to the consolidated platform
• Leverage best practices to avoid common challenges
• Explore how you manage the systems after consolidation10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Engineer a Comprehensive Database Consolidation Strategy
Speaker: Jon Williams, Oracle
This session will discuss the technical and business benefits of a comprehensive strategy for database consolidation that incorporates optimizations across the entire software and hardware technology stack. We will review Oracle’s database maturity model that spans traditional siloed deployments, consolidated and optimized database configurations and lays the groundwork for private cloud DBaaS models. Examples of consolidated database architectures will illustrate the unique advantages of Oracle Database 12c, Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, and Oracle Exadata, SuperCluster, Database Appliance and SPARC servers.
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m - Complimentary Lunch
With hardware and software engineered to work together, only Oracle can offer database-aware storage. In this session you will learn how Oracle ZFS Storage Appliances accelerate Exadata implementations, speed software performance, streamline database tuning, deliver critical backup and restore performance, and provide granular analytics for faster analysis and resolution - all features critical for database consolidation.
Interact with a panel of Oracle and customer speakers discussing database consolidation topics such as:
• Organizational challenges and opportunities related to database consolidation
• How database consolidation affects DBAs
• How database consolidation changes the daily responsibilities and career path of the DBA
• How to measure the business and economic benefits of database consolidation
• The relationship between database consolidation and private cloud
