Prior to joining Oracle, Thompson was with PeopleSoft where he led the dramatic transformation of PeopleSoft into a real-time enterprise by helping PeopleSoft realize the benefits of "drinking its own champagne" – using its own pure internet applications to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Thompson has more than 18 years of experience in IT leadership in the high technology industry.

This informative panel discussion will feature middle and senior-level women from several companies who have achieved prominence in the technology field. These women will share lively stories about their experiences and their advice to others. This interactive discussion is open to interested women and men, so come ready with your questions and comments! The session will be moderated by IOUG Executive Director, Carol McGury and includes the following panelists:

University of Central Florida
Dykes is Chief Operating Officer of the University of Central Florida Technology Incubator (UCFTI). The Incubator currently serves over 50 companies in facilities in the Central Florida Research Park, Downtown Orlando and Sanford, FL. Incubator companies have created an estimated 600 jobs and generated over $160M in revenues and received over $110M of investment capital.Previously she was a member of the University of Florida (UF) faculty in the College of Engineering where she served as Associate Director of the Southern Technology Applications Center supporting companies, federal laboratories and universities across the southeastern United States in their technology commercialization activities. Prior to that, she served as Vice President for Information Services at Technology Strategic Planning Inc. in Stuart, FL, providing global competitive technology analysis for Fortune 50 clients. Before that she was a Librarian and Information Specialist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock.
Carol Ann is Past President of the University Economic Development Association. She is a member of the National Business Incubation Association, the Florida Business Incubation Association, and the Association of University Technology Managers. She is a member of the Advisory Group for the Gainesville Technology Enterprise Center, a technology incubator in Gainesville, FL. Carol Ann is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.
- Judy Sim, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Customer Advocacy, Oracle Corporation
Sim is Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Customer Advocacy at Oracle. Ms. Sim is responsible for overseeing all advertising, events, customer relationship marketing, brand management, partner marketing and field marketing execution. She is also responsible for Customer Advocacy, a global initiative at Oracle that drives corporate focus on user group relationships, customer feedback and product enhancement programs.Sim officially joined Oracle in 1991 but has been a part of the company since 1986. She has headed numerous product launch teams, overseen Oracle conferences, and held a variety of customer-related and marketing positions during her tenure at Oracle. Sim holds a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of California, Davis
- Connie Smekens, Director of Technology Services,
Broad and Cassel, Attorneys at Law,
Orlando, Florida
Smekens graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1987 with a B.A. in Legal Studies. She began her law firm career as a paralegal with one of Florida's largest law firms and practiced in the area of commercial litigation. During her years as a paralegal, she became proficient in the use of technology in a law firm and implemented practice specific software as a tool to create efficiencies in the legal field. In 1995, Smekens joined Broad and Cassel, one of Florida's largest law firms, as their first Practice Group Coordinator. Her main responsibility was to research, evaluate and recommend software that would provide the firm with a competitive advantage while adding value to the services provided to its clients. After only one year with the Firm, she was appointed the Director of Technology Services, and today manages a group of 10 ten technology specialists throughout the state. In addition, over the last 2 1/2 years, she has served as the Director of Communications and Business Development and spearheads all of the Firm's coordinated marketing activities. She is an active member of the Association of Legal Administrators, LawNet and several other professional organizations.
- Christy Wawrzynowicz,
Internap Network Service Corporation,
Orlando, Florida
Wawrzynowicz graduated in 1994 with her bachelor’s degree from Florida Institute of Technology. Her last 8 years in the IT industry include working for MCI and Sprint. During her telecom career, she had the opportunity to work with both voice and data communications. From 2003-2004, she participated in Sprint’s Executive Leadership program while working as a Data Tech Support Manager. In 2004, Wawrzynowicz completed her MBA program at Keller Graduate School with an emphasis on both marketing and IT. After graduate school, she joined the Internap team as an outside sales rep covering the Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville areas. Internap Network Services specializes in WAN optimization technology for large business. Internap was inducted into the Smithsonian in 2000 for visionary use of routing technology. Wawrzynowicz is currently working hard to educate Central Florida markets on the latest in patented WAN technology.
