IOUG SIG Start-up Information

Thank you for choosing the IOUG as your premier source for Oracle education. You already know that the IOUG not only offers excellent educational resources on Oracle products and services, but the IOUG also strives to present members with a forum to learn and network on specific topics. If you are reading this, you must also know that being a part of a SIG is the ideal mechanism for collaborating with your peers to facilitate the effective implementation of your Oracle investment. SIGs are the communication channel through which customers can provide feedback directly to Oracle. They serve an important role by connecting members utilizing the same products and providing information exchange and networking opportunities.

The IOUG SIG program infrastructure provides a set of tools that allows your organization to have a year-round community. Key components of this toolkit include the opportunity to hold face-to-face meetings at the COLLABORATE and Oracle OpenWorld, a hosted website, an email listserv and more!

If you are interested in starting a new SIG, review the 5 Critical Success Factors of active SIGs, and benefits of affiliating with the IOUG. Then simply complete the SIG interest form and IOUG HQ will contact you to begin the formation process.

Critical Success Factors

  1. Topic Relevance: The topic on which your SIG focuses must be relevant and timely in order to fill a specific need with the industry.
  2. Volunteer Energy: The IOUG will provide assistance in launching your SIG. However, as a volunteer-run organization, we require a dedicated group of 3-5 volunteers who are willing and able to commit time to launch this group. If you do not have a full Steering Committee, the IOUG can help to locate additional volunteer leaders.
  3. Oracle Representation: An integral component of your leadership team is your Oracle Liaison. If you are not currently working with an Oracle representative, the IOUG can help to identify the best person.
  4. Critical Mass: Without SIG members, a SIG can not be considered to be truly active. Once you officially launch, you will be able to invite the IOUG membership, currently 20,000 strong, to build your user-base.
  5. Infrastructure Support: The IOUG Director of SIGs, SIG Council and HQ team is here to support your SIG launch. Read below about the specific tools that the IOUG provides to each SIG to enable your group to be successful.
