SIG Programs & Services

IT Tools

Launch a web site
The IOUG provides your group a “ready to use” template which will have your Web site up and running within an hour. It also enables your SIG to be on the latest Oracle technology that eases user community communication and interrelation. Your group administrator controls the content, and you choose what to share with other SIGs. This is a custom application using Oracle Application Express provided courtesy of Oracle. The start-up template includes a common calendar/events list, events pages, discussion forums, membership profiles and an email interface.

To reserve your website, simply complete the SIG Web Hosting Agreement and fax to Abbey Nystedt at (312) 527-6785.

Post an event on the master events calendar
Visit the IOUG Calendar of Events and post information on your upcoming SIG event. Events information will also be highlighted in SELECT Journal and published in Oracle Magazine.

Utilize an e-mail listserv
Communicate with your membership through an email listserv. A listserv is simply a distribution list containing the email addresses of all of your SIG members. Your SIG members will be able to reach the entire SIG membership to ask a technical question (“has anyone ever…” or “I'm trying to…”) by sending an email to the listserv address (e.g. ioug-SIGNAME@ls2.ioug.org) which will be received in SIG members' email inboxes. SIG members can instantly respond. The listserv tool allows for the individual user to adjust their settings to manage email volume.

To set-up a listserv for your SIG, send an email to Abbey Nystedt .

Host a 'blog
Blogs are yet another way to communicate with your SIG members and the broader Oracle community on issues in your topic matter. Identify a trustworthy blogger who will adhere to blog guidelines and who has the time to post on a regular basis. Then, when you're ready to get started, email Abbey Nystedt .

Publications

Publish a technical article in SELECT Journal
SELECT
is the IOUG's quarterly printed technical journal providing in-depth technical articles written by recognized authorities in Oracle technology. Submit an article by one of your SIG's experts and promote your SIG while providing technical education.

To submit an article for consideration, review the submission guidelines and then email the SELECT editorial team.

Publish an announcement in Five Minute Briefing: Oracle
Promote an upcoming event or other announcement relating to your SIG in an edition of our twice monthly electronic newsletter, Five Minute Briefing: Oracle. Send your 50-word or less submission to Alissa Kaplan and it will be broadcast to close to 20,000 IOUG members!

Contribute content to the Library of Oracle Knowledge (LoOK)
The IOUG LoOK is an exclusive repository of technical resources for IOUG members. Here you'll find over 3,000 conference papers, presentations, tips and best practices created for Oracle users by Oracle users. LoOK also contains select white papers and other technical documents from SIGs, Oracle Corporation, vendor members and other sources.

To submit technical content to LoOK, email your submission as a PDF document to the IOUG inbox.

Virtual Education

Hold a webcast
Webcasts are an effective tool for delivering technical education to a wide, geographically diverse audience. IOUG Webcasts are delivered using Oracle's Collaboration Suite using a conference call bridge to receive audio.

To set-up your webcast, contact Abbey Nystedt with your speaker name, topic, and preferred date/time for the event.

Host a “technology forum” conference call
Similar to a webcast, but with audio only, technology forums are roundtable discussions held via conference call and open to your full SIG membership. All you need is a facilitator and a topic and you're ready to go!

To set-up your technology forum, contact Abbey Nystedt with your facilitator, topic, and preferred date/time for the event.

In Person Meetings

Hold a SIG meeting at Oracle OpenWorld
In the fall of each year the IOUG is one of six of Oracle's most important user groups who convene for the annual Oracle Users Forum at Oracle OpenWorld. The full day event takes place on the Sunday prior to the official start of the conference and is open to all registered attendees. The morning schedule features SIG meetings and IOUG SIGs are each offered a 90 minute meeting slot. The afternoon agenda contains an educational program developed by the user groups. Each organization, the IOUG included, brings the best of the best speakers and sessions from their own conferences and meetings for the benefit of the OpenWorld audience. Come for the content and discover the value of the instruction available from your peers within Oracle users groups. In addition each SIG will receive one complimentary full conference registration.

To schedule your SIG meeting at Oracle OpenWorld, contact Abbey Nystedt .
Note: Planning for the 2008 event will begin in the late spring of 2008.

Hold a SIG meeting at COLLABORATE
COLLABORATE 08: Technology and Applications Forum for the Oracle Community will be held April 13-17 in Denver, CO. With premier education, and access to the top industry experts solutions and strategies, the IOUG Forum at COLLABORATE 08 will give attendees access to the most comprehensive Oracle education event of the year!

SIGs are an integral part of the COLLABORATE experience - truly making the event for the complete database and technology professional. To schedule your SIG meeting, please contact Abbey Nystedt.

Partner with a Regional User Group (RUG)
The IOUG is contains a network of more than 100 separate local and regional Oracle user groups that deliver value from a more localized perspective. Partner with a RUG on their next meeting by providing a technical speaker and expand your SIGs reach.

To locate contact information for user groups that have affiliated themselves with the IOUG search our user group directory. To reach out to multiple user groups, contact Megan Price to email the RUG distribution list.
