About the Spatial SIG
The North American Oracle Spatial SIG was formed at the 2004 Oracle OpenWorld Conference with the goal of bringing together the family of Oracle Spatial professionals to promote interaction and communication that can drive the market for spatial technology and data in the enterprise. The SIG will address the need to support a sense of community and affiliation among Oracle Spatial users throughout North America. By fostering strategic and technical collaboration between members and Oracle, the SIG's aim is to create forum for the interchange of best practices and technical discussion that will best serve the community as well as provide input to Oracle as to the needs of the users.

Share Your Spatial Stories - Webcast Opportunity
Directions Media - home of Directions Magazine - is hosting two webinars in coming months that are sponsored by Oracle. As you might expect from a spatially oriented publisher, the content of both webinars will be focused on Oracle 11g Spatial technology. There are two things that the Oracle Spatial SIG would like to do.
- First, encourage everyone to attend. The details will be decided in the next few weeks and we'll let you know how to register.
- Second, and the reason for this email, is a call for abstracts. While the purpose of the webinars is to spread Oracle Spatial 11g product information, the Spatial SIG leadership and Oracle would really like to see a strong "user story" component. This means that your company or project can be a highlight of the webinar.
Between the two webinars there are likely 2 to 4 slots for user stories. If you submit an abstract but are not selected for one of the webinar slots, don't worry! There is also the possibility that you could be recognized in an Oracle Technology Network podcast. So there are two reasons for sending an abstract to SpatialSIGLeaders@gmail.com - being in the webinar, and being in an Oracle podcast. Both will get your projects recognition and help spread the word about Oracle Spatial technologies.
How to Participate
- By November 31st send an email to SpatialSIGLeaders@gmail.com containing the following information.
- Your name, company name, and phone number
- Short title, e.g., "Decreasing customer service response times using Oracle Maps"
- Brief description of technologies used, business problem solved, and hopefully some concrete ROI.
We look forward to hearing from you and helping spread the word about Oracle Spatial technologies in the broader geospatial community.

About Oracle Spatial
The role of Oracle Spatial in enterprise spatial solutions is dramatically expanding. While the fundamental goal of geographic data storage, retrieval and cross-platform interoperability remains a cornerstone, Oracle Spatial has moved into areas such as management and processing of network, topology, and georaster data. As a fully integrated technology within the Oracle database, Oracle's Spatial functionality is designed to operate seamlessly within Oracle's technology stack, providing a platform to support the delivery of scalable and secure enterprise geospatial applications. A growing number of users continue to apply Oracle Spatial across a spectrum of geospatial applications, for example, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM), Remote Sensing, Surveying, Location Based Services (LBS) and spatially enabled business systems. Perhaps most significantly, non-map-based enterprise business systems can acquire spatial intelligence though back-end integration with Oracle Spatial.
