Ray is the Principal Systems Architect and Manager of Oracle Infrastructure Services for the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). He has been working with Oracle databases and other Oracle technologies since 1983. He is a recognized Oracle Ace for Applications Technology. Ray recently led the transformation of APL’s systems architecture supporting it’s EBusiness Suite installations from a monolithic model to a grid computing model utilizing the principles of commodity hardware, horizontal scaling, high redundancy and availability, and Oracle RAC cluster. Currently, he is participating in a project to establish a private cloud infrastructure to provide IaaS and PaaS service to a broad array of enterprise customers within APL. Ray is a member of the customer advisory boards for Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Linux, and Oracle VM. He is a recognized speaker in several Oracle User Group communities including IOUG, OAUG, and ODTUG and has traveled worldwide speaking on such topics as Enterprise Management, Grid Architecture, GREEN IT among other topics. He has participated as a member and chair of OAUG’s customer support council and has also participated as a member of the IOUC support council. Ray is well known in the Oracle User Group communities and is a past president and board member of the OAUG. In his “spare” time, Ray is a Radio Controlled Model Aircraft enthusiast and owns and flies a variety ranging from small electric powered helicopters to giant 30% scale and larger gas powered aerobatic airplanes.
