Application Server

The Oracle application server is a product that provides middleware services for web based applications. The Oracle application server product contains an application server for running J2EE, Forms, Reports and Discoverer applications as well as a web server for processing web pages and an HTTP server for handling HTTP requests from the network. The Oracle application server can separate the application server, web server and HTTP server for multi-tiered hardware environments. Oracle Application Express can also be configured to run in the Oracle application server. The Oracle Internet Directory can be used as a repository for all identity management and security information. The Oracle Application Server
also supports high availability solutions that include clustering and replication.

The Oracle Application Server supports Oracle business applications such as Oracle Portal, Wireless, BPEL Process Manager, Oracle Business Rules and Business Intelligence.

Airbags for the Oracle Application Server Enterprise systems represent a tremendous investment both in cost and effort. Those investments increase exponentially when those systems are placed under the constraints of high availability. Once this decision has been made, or requirement identified, protecting this investment is paramount. In this presentation participants will be introduced to Oracle Application Server Guard. The context for which it is relevant will be discussed as well as the various configurations that can support a range of recovery requirements. A hands-on example will illustrate how the technology behaves in a recovery scenario as well as illustrating potential “gotchas” to be considered in any implementation. In one hour, attendees will learn everything needed to understand why they need Application Server Guard, and will gain the confidence to return to their organization ready to implement. Oracle Application Server Administration 101 As Vince Lombardi once said, "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link". The Oracle Application Server is made up of numerous complex components that are all dependent on each other. If any of these components are not functioning properly, serious performance degradation can occur and applications may not be available. Knowing how to administer the Oracle Application Server environment and how to find the weakest is important for organizations wishing to implement Web-based applications.
