Oracle Corporation announces the end of Error Correction Support for Oracle Database version(s) 8.1.7 (8i) & 8.1.7.x (8i) on the following platform(s): IBM OS/390 (z/OS) version(s) ALL - MPM, excluding OSDI, SGI Unix, IBM NUMA-Q DYNIX/ptx (Sequent), IBM AIX-Based Systems version(s) 4.3.3, NEC UX/4800, UnixWare (SCO), Data General Intel Unix, Fujitsu-Siemens RM200-600E Reliant Unix, effective 31-DEC-2003.

Oracle Corporation recommends customers upgrade/migrate to the following as soon as possible to maintain the highest level of support:

  • Customers running on one of Oracle's strategic platforms should upgrade to the current version of Oracle Database. Please refer to the most current version of the Oracle Platform Strategy advisory (MetaLink Doc ID: 149914.1).
  • At the time of this notice, Oracle Database 9.2 is the current release, but it is likely that others may be released prior to the desupport date for 8.1.7. 9.2 is the recommended upgrade path for the longest support life.
  • Customers who are NOT running on one of the above-mentioned strategic platforms should plan to migrate to a then-supported platform in time to upgrade to a currently-supported version of Oracle Database.

ES will be provided until 31-DEC-2006, if the customer has a current support contract in place.

ES includes the following:

ES does NOT include the following:

Telephone and Electronic support, consisting of:

    • Answers to customers' questions
    • Assistance with migration plans to a supported platform and/or product
    • Workarounds, where possible
    • Error Correction Support (ECS) - No new bug fixes
    • Backporting of fixes
    • Certification with supported products, newer operating system versions or new compilers
    • Escalation support, response time adherence and skill availability
